Begegnungen // Ontmoetingen: Martin Lucas Schulze - Johannes Langkamp
ExhibitionPop-up
1 - 4 Februari
Martin Lucas Schulze (Chemnitz) sees his minimalist and technically sophisticated installation art as an alternative production of knowledge. He is fascinated by scientific phenomena and tries to capture the non-empirically verifiable, the void, in his art, whereby he is particularly interested in decay processes. Decay processes are a constant in nature. The questions that preoccupy him are universal: Do the decay structures themselves decay and reconfigure themselves? What are the forms and manifestations of decay?
The work of Johannes Langkamp (Rotterdam) begins with the question of where the limits of the imagination lie. In a playful way, unexpected things (finds or failures) emerge, which lead to material that he processes into presentations. In his work, he collects processes and thematises developments. These emerge through experimentation with means, material and situations. In doing so, he searches for ways to materialise his thoughts: What happens when I mount a paint roller on a screwdriver and switch it on for a few seconds? What sound does a sheet of paper make when it scrapes across walls and floors? How does a frame of a perspective relate to the room? One question is always followed by another, with the unexpected leading the way.
