TRASH & CA$H | solotentoonstelling Stephen Shanabrook
Shortly after the breakup of the U.S.S.R. Stephen Shanabrook (NYC) was invited to a show in Moscow. This invitation stemmed from his working period at the Ateliers '63 in Haarlem.
Shanabrook presents eleven floral works composed over the years from U.S.S.R. waste collected and shipped back then, combined with waste from the NYC Waste Program in the city where he lives and works.
TRASH FLOWERS is a beautiful and long-lasting series; artworks that speak in its individuality and the visual language and use of materials that are characteristic of Shanabrook. His oeuvre is an expression of his own history, his story. This story is also about his world and his actuality. And his story in this multi-layered work is now more than ever that of all of us.
Stephen Shanabrook's work is represented in museum collections, including the MONA (Hobard, Australia) and many private collections, including Damien Hirst's.
