The exhibition I curate/you curate invites the artists to take the role of the curator in a playful way. Two artists open their ateliers to each other and allow them to choose any work they like with the permission to exhibit it. The rule is that they cannot say no to the choice of the ‘’curator’’. It is about vulnerability and exposure to the other but also an act of trust and acceptance.
Hüma Birgül invites Despina Papachristoudi to open her photographic archive and chooses a photograph. Then Despina visits Huma’s atelier and chooses a painting. Then Huma goes back to choose another photograph, until the gallery’s walls are filled. The choices are made in response to each other’s selected work and are guided by colours, symbols, form and free association. The result is a dialog between the two artists and the works will be seen as a sequence.
