We have a complex relationship with perfection. Striving for it seems to be the highest achievable: everything is transient and perfection meaningless. If perfection seems attainable, we quickly find it boring. And where is the balance between perfection and imperfection? In the exhibition PERFECT TILL THE END. THE END OF PERFECT curators Grubben and Heesterbeek invite 23 artists to explore their relationship with perfection in photographs, objects and installations.
It started with the synergy between two artists who look at perfection in a fundamentally different way. For artist duo van de Camp & Heesterbeek perfection is essential. Their work is finished when all unnecessary details have been removed and an abstract human image remains. They react to each other's work and stop when the image itself says it's good. Photographer Paul Brouwer is not at all concerned with perfection or imperfection. His photographs were taken in a fraction of a moment and printed unfiltered and almost carelessly. His pixels break down, his works raise more questions than they answer, but for him they are the perfect representation of his gut, of who he is.
In this exhibition we see artistic expressions of 23 artists. What is perfection to them and do they achieve it? The line between success and failure is paper thin and razor sharp. In search of perfection, or at least striving for it, this is an exhibition you want to see.
