Depot Museum Boijmans Van Beuningen is the working building of the museum where the museum's collection is kept and cared for. On the outside, the building is a mirroring pot, on the inside a veritable machine room where art handling, registration, restoration and conservation are the main activities. But also presenting the art collection, in a different way than people are used to from museums. The building offers visitors a look behind the scenes of the museum. What normally remains hidden can be seen here. Fourteen climate-controlled rooms in the depot have been furnished with racks, shelves and cupboards for all the different works of art. There are depots for paintings, metals, organic and non-organic materials, black-and-white and color photography, etc. Humidity and temperature are kept stable in the depot areas. In the atrium you can view a selection of the works of art in large display cases from various angles. A depot area can also be visited under the supervision of a guide and a security guard. It is also possible to visit the depot with the specially made app. The depot app contains valuable information about the preservation and management of the collection and information about the works of art. On the top floor is restaurant Renilde with a roof garden with a magnificent view of the skyline of the ever-changing Rotterdam.
