From January 31 to April 7, 2024, Ballon Rouge will exhibit the work of Vivian Ammerlaan (b. 1994). The exhibition ‘Waanplekken (Delusional places)’ features recent work from the ongoing series of the same title and new works from the series ‘Tijdloze leegten (Timeless voids)’.

Ammerlaan: “In an age where the entire world has been meticulously charted and mapped, I find myself drawn to the remote and the unexplored. How can one capture the essence of these untouched and uncharted landscapes without physically venturing into them?”

The series 'Waanplekken' features impressions of landscapes created by Ammerlaan through photography and the use of everyday materials. In this ongoing project, initiated in 2015, she explores ways to depict memories of overwhelming nature and the sublime. The exhibition will showcase the latest works from this series, created in 2023.

In her new series, ‘Tijdloze leegten', Ammerlaan unveils an undiscovered world where time loses its meaning. In this wild environment dominated by wind and storms, humanity finds no place. For this, she used the technique of chemigrams, which uses photochemicals to paint on light-sensitive paper. She experimented with old papers and used tea as a color medium, searching for the elusive.

On Saturday, February 3rd, between 3:00 and 5:00 PM, Vivian Ammerlaan will give an Artist Talk about her ongoing series 'Waanplekken' and her artistic process.
